Where Vision Meets Incentive: Cyprus as Europe’s Emerging Film Hub
Cyprus has quietly become one of the most desirable film production destinations in Europe — a Mediterranean island merging cinematic beauty with world-class financial incentives.
Through its Cyprus Filming Scheme, the government has unlocked the country’s potential as a production powerhouse — offering up to 40% cash rebates, tax credits, and VAT benefits to international film producers.
At Didi’s Family Office, we help creative and production companies structure their Cyprus projects efficiently — ensuring you capture both the visual beauty and financial advantage of this unique jurisdiction.
Why Cyprus
With its diverse landscapes, rich cultural heritage, and 300 days of sunshine, Cyprus offers filmmakers the freedom to create without interruption. From ancient ruins and Byzantine castles to modern city skylines, it provides a full spectrum of backdrops — all within short travel distances.
Cyprus isn’t just a filming location. It’s a complete production ecosystem — combining beauty, safety, and fiscal strategy.

Financial Incentives at a Glance
The Cyprus Filming Scheme offers producers four major routes to optimize their production costs and reinvest in creativity:
1. Cash Rebates – Up to 40%
One of the most generous in Europe. Eligible productions can reclaim up to 40% of qualifying local expenditures, capped at €650,000 per production.
Minimum local spend:
€200,000 for feature films
€100,000 for TV dramas or mini-series
€50,000 for documentaries
€30,000 for other TV programs
The project must promote Cypriot, European, or global culture, as assessed by a cultural test.
2. Tax Credit – Up to 35%
Production companies may offset up to 35% of eligible Cyprus expenditures against corporate income tax.
Unused credits can be carried forward for 5 years.
This reduces the effective tax burden and strengthens return-on-investment for large-scale productions.
3. VAT Refunds
Qualifying in-country production expenses benefit from VAT refunds, streamlining budgets and improving liquidity during post-production phases.
4. Tax Allowances on Investment
Small and medium-sized film enterprises investing in equipment or production facilities may deduct up to:
20% of eligible expenditures (small enterprises)
10% (medium enterprises)
Assets must remain in Cyprus for at least five years — reinforcing local industry growth.
A Stable, Safe, and Efficient Filming Destination
Cyprus earned global recognition for its strong pandemic response, ranked among the top in Europe for safety and continuity of operations.
While other jurisdictions experienced production halts, Cyprus maintained business continuity, enabling producers to complete long-term projects with confidence.
Combined with its robust healthcare system, EU membership, and streamlined border processes, Cyprus remains one of the most stable production environments in the world.

IP Box Regime for Film Companies
For production groups establishing a base in Cyprus, the Cyprus IP Box Regime offers one of the most advanced IP frameworks in Europe.Qualifying intellectual property (scripts, music, digital assets, or film rights) may benefit from an effective tax rate as low as 2.5% on income — enabling both creative and financial ownership to remain within the EU.
This makes Cyprus an exceptional jurisdiction for film headquarters, studios, or IP-holding entities.

The Perfect Filming Landscape
Cyprus is a filmmaker’s dream:
Blue Flag Beaches, valleys, and mountains within hours of each other
World Heritage Sites like Paphos and Choirokoitia
Urban luxury in Limassol, with marinas, glass towers, and modern infrastructure
Predictable climate and abundant natural light all year round
Its compact geography means you can film multiple worlds in a single country — medieval Europe, modern metropolis, or ancient civilization — all within a few hours’ drive.

Production Support & Local Expertise
Cyprus offers world-class production logistics, multilingual professionals, and an ecosystem designed for international collaboration.English is universally spoken, making communication seamless between local and global crews.
Internal short distances, modern roads, and safe conditions make logistics smooth, fast, and cost-efficient.
Several films already produced in Cyprus have received international acclaim, and the government continues to expand the scheme to attract large-scale Hollywood productions.
